‘Turning Waste into Energy’ – HDEC Reaches a New Milestone

HDEC, a subsidiary of Continental Holdings Corporation (Stock Code: 3703), has completed the installation of the steam drum in the Tainan Chengxi Incinerator BOT project. Weighing 29.5 tons, the steam drum is located at the top of the boiler. It is the most important piece of equipment in the entire plant and is at the core of the incineration process. The completion of the steam drum installation signifies that the plant’s equipment installation has entered its final stage.

“It is not only an important step towards the operation of the plant, but also an important milestone in HDEC’s expansion from water treatment to renewable energy,” said HDEC CEO Jerry Chou. “This project introduces the latest incinerator technology and expertise from Japan. In addition to meeting the increasingly stringent air pollution emission standards, the power generation efficiency can also be improved to more than 25 percent. Once in operation, the plant will significantly increase Tainan City’s waste disposal capacity, becoming the city’s cutting-edge low-pollution, high-efficiency incineration plant.”

The BOT project has an investment value of NT$7.215 billion with a concession period of 25 years. Construction can be completed as scheduled in 2026. Once in operation, the plant is capable of processing 295,650 tons of waste for Tainan City annually, and the annual power generation is estimated to reach 262.44 million kWh, helping to improve the quality of Tainan City’s waste disposal services and contribute to the net zero sustainability goal.
